The French Riviera

On this page, we have gathered the most beautiful places and beaches in Beaulieu-sur-Mer and the surrounding area.

Beaulieu-sur-Mer

Villa Kérylos

The city’s main jewel — an exact reconstruction of a luxurious 2nd-century BC Greek villa, built between 1902–1908 for archaeologist Théodore Reinach. Inside, you’ll find frescoes, mosaics, ancient statues, and furniture made of Carrara marble, bronze, and ivory. The villa stands directly on a rocky promontory with breathtaking sea views.

Promenade Maurice Rouvier

A picturesque 2 km coastal trail leading from Beaulieu-sur-Mer to Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. Along the way, enjoy stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea and the luxurious villas on the Cap-Ferrat peninsula. The walk takes about 30 minutes.

Plage de la Petite Afrique

The largest beach in the resort — 400 meters of pebbles at the foot of the cliffs, surrounded by wild vegetation. Crystal-clear water and mountain views make it one of the best on the coast. There are both private and public areas.

Baie des Fourmis

A cozy bay with views of the Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat peninsula and Villa Kérylos. An excellent spot for swimming and photography. A marina with yachts is located nearby.

Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat: Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild

~ 5 mins

A luxurious villa in the Italian Renaissance style, built between 1907–1912 by Baroness Béatrice de Rothschild. The pink palace is filled with antique furniture, paintings by old masters, and a rare porcelain collection. Surrounding the villa are nine themed gardens — French, Japanese, Spanish, Florentine, Provençal, and more. The gardens are classified as “Remarkable Gardens of France.”

Cap-Ferrat Coastal Path

~ 5 mins

A walking route around the Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat peninsula with breathtaking views of the turquoise sea, rocky coves, and hidden beaches.

Èze Village

~ 10 mins

A medieval village “perched” on a cliff 450 meters above the sea. Its labyrinth of cobbled streets, stone houses, and bougainvillea leads to the Exotic Garden (Jardin Exotique) with cacti and castle ruins, offering one of the most breathtaking panoramic views of the entire French Riviera — from Italy to Saint-Tropez.

Villefranche-sur-Mer

~ 5 mins

One of the most photogenic towns on the French Riviera. Its deep Mediterranean bay (up to 95 m), colorful houses cascading down to the water, the sandy Marin beach, and the historic covered street Rue Obscure from the 13th century create a charming atmosphere. The Chapel of St. Peter is decorated with frescoes by Jean Cocteau.

Monaco and Monte-Carlo

~ 15 mins

The Principality of Monaco — the epitome of luxury. Explore the famous Monte Carlo Casino, the Prince’s Palace with its daily changing of the guard, the Oceanographic Museum perched on the cliff, and the Formula 1 circuit running through the city streets.

Walking Trail
from Monaco to Cap-d’Ail

~ 20 mins

Start: Plage Marquet (just beyond the Monaco border, near the Port Fontvieille / Cap d’Ail)
Finish: Plage Mala in Cap-d’Ail, a small picturesque bay with a couple of beachside restaurants.

Distance: About 3 km from Plage Marquet to Plage Mala, roughly a 40-minute walk at a leisurely pace.

The trail runs along the edge of the sea, sometimes weaving between large rocks and cliffs. Along the way, you’ll pass villas and early 20th-century hotels, including the impressive Résidence Eden and other striking buildings on the hillside. Near the tip of Cap-d’Ail, there is a small beach and the restaurant Le Cabanon, perfect for a stop.

Nice — Old Town and Promenade des Anglais

~ 20 mins

The capital of the French Riviera. Explore the Old Town (Vieux Nice) with its baroque churches, the colorful Cours Saleya market, and the legendary Promenade des Anglais along the sea. From the hill of Colline du Château, enjoy panoramic views of the entire Bay of Angels.

Menton

~ 30 mins

The last town in France before Italy. Famous for its unique microclimate (316 sunny days a year!), a baroque-style Old Town with Italian flair, magnificent botanical gardens (Serre de la Madone, Val Rahmeh), and the renowned Lemon Festival. The Jean Cocteau Museum on the seafront is another must-see attraction.
